My writing

I have an account on Goodreads, this really cool website of books and stuff, and I've been trying to start a story on there forever.  I just started over, and I thought it would be cool if I kept you guys up to date on my writing too. Here is the start of the first chapter of my novel The Yellow Dog.  All the inspiration comes from my own life:

My name is Amy Dawford. I live in Boston, MA and I work for a magazine company. I'm 25 years old, I live in an apartment and I'm single. But this story isn't about that. It's about my life, or how it was seventeen years ago. It starts on April 5, the day my baby brother was born. That day was important at the time, and though it fades away over the years, to me, it is my life.
I was four years old, and my life was wonderful. I was the perfect age, not too young to be fussy, but young enough to find the wonder in everyday life. My mom taught fifth grade, and my dad was a dentist. Not too amazing, but I was fascinated. We were happy, my dad, my mom and I. They loved me as much as I loved them. They were my idols; my life. My parents were young and foolish, thinking nothing would ever go wrong. We were all like that. They thought that life was theirs, and they controlled it fully. But they were wrong. They would soon learn that life is cruel and desperate, and if anything, controls you.
